Hello,

I would like to inform you that I have some problems with my config settings of my counter strike source for over 5 months and would like to know some possible solutions.

The problem
I heard many people talking about getting a professional configuration files on internet for counter strike source. I was very curious so I went on one of those websites where you can download hundreds of these professional configs of players from America and Europe. I had overwrote that config file (Unfortunately I forgot to make a copy of my config as backup) and after starting the game, I noticed that alot has changed and it was not playable for me.

There are many problems solved with thanks to ProfessorOak, but I would be grateful if the following issues were also solved.

What doesn’t work?
  • I can’t use my microphone (ingame) and hear other people talking. (With all other programs it works well)
  • I don’t see any sprays. I hear the sound of them, but don’t see anything (r_decals 200).
  • I don’t see any props. (Especially when Paul appears barrels on SG)
  • Textures aren’t displayed as in the original.
What I have tried:
  • I have removed the cfg folder, so there would be created a new folder containing cfg files. (still same settings)
  • I removed Steam and Counter Strike. (still same settings)
  • All registered files of steam in regedit removed. (still same settings)
  • I have reinstalled Windows. (still same settings)
I have no idea if all the settings are linked to my account, but would be great if the setting were back to default.

Best regards,

Halil

Did you try disabling steam cloud synchronization under properties - tab updates, then deleting cfg files? If cloud sync is enabled, it just keep fetching the corrupted cfg files, when its disabled it might set it to default upon deleting?

Edit: http://forums.steamp...d.php?t=1863496

Steam Cloud is preventing me from changing/resetting my config files.

Follow these instructions to reset the configuration for a specific game
  • Navigate to the store page for the game you wish to reset and get the appID from the URL
It should look like this: http://store.steampo...om/app/<appID>/
  • Disable Steam Cloud
  • Navigate to “Steam\SteamApps\<username>\<game>\<game>\cfg \” and delete “config.cfg”
  • Navigate to “Steam\userdata\<usernumber>\<appID>\remote\c fg\” and delete “config.cfg”
  • Launch the game, allow it to write a new config file, then exit the game
  • Enable Steam Cloud
  • Launch the game and test the issue.

No, haven't tried that yet, but it seems logical now. Thanks for your fast reply. I'll let you know if it works.

These are only two "solutions" what you're saying the whole time when somebody's config doesn't work, haha!
I removed all the files, nothing happened.

Hij was al ingesteld op standaard, maar zoals ik al zei; met andere programma's werkt het prima. Ook werkt hij via 'Steam' » 'Settings' » 'Voice' » 'Test microfone', maar in-game niet. Toch bedankt voor je reactie.

Nice :)

Next!

http://forums.steamp...d.php?t=1942758
Open up the game, then test your microphone.

If it's not working, open the console, put in the setting sv_use_steam_voice 0 , then test your microphone again.

If it works after setting sv setting to 0, you're with the thousand other people who are having this problem after Steam updated their voice codec.

If not, it'd have to be a different problem.

Microphone input switches when launching a game

Question

I have all the recording settings for my mixer and select Line 1/Mic, and it works before I play a game, but whenever I start CS it sets the recording device to Wave Out Mix, instead of Line 1/Mic. As a result the game engine is binding it's mic input to the wrong source on the sound card.

I can alt-tab out of the game and set it back to Line 1/Mic then it works for the test in the options menu, but when I join a Server it puts it the mic back to Wave Out Mix again so my mic won't work.

How do I fix this?

Answer

Other software applications like CD Recording programs can change the wavein input to come from the CD player instead of from the microphone, then when players try and use their microphone in the game it won't work.

To solve this, the HL engine tries to make sure the mixer control settings are set properly when the game runs, but not all soundcards work the same way, especially very high-end sound cards like Audigy 2ZS pro cards.

To prevent the HL engine from trying to set the mic input, players need to set this CVAR in their userconfig.cfg file or in the launch properties of the game.

Add this line in userconfig.cfg:

voice_forcemicrecord 0

or in the launch properties for each game you play:

+voice_forcemicrecord 0

(you don't need both)

This will prevent the engine from attempting to configure the mixer settings.

You might also check and make sure these settings are correct:

voice_enable "1"
sv_voiceenable "1"
voice_scale "0.75"
voice_dsound "1"
voice_modenable "1"

By default, these settings will be found under the following directory:
C:\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\<Steam Account Name>\<Game Title>\<Abbreviated Game Title>\cfg\config.cfg

If this file does not exist you may create it by creating a new Notepad document in the \cfg\ folder, entering the suggested settings, and renaming the file to "config.cfg".

Succes :)
